Worcestershire Beacon Walk
Worcestershire Beacon, Malvern Hills

The hill can be reached from the town of Great Malvern and is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On the summit is a toposcope which was put up in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee.
425 metres / 1,394 feet
Part of the walk up to the top is on a road which was constructed for the Queen when she visited the town as a little girl.
The steep climb is rewarded with magnificent views over the town of Malvern and on a clear day as many as 14 counties can be identified from the top.


THE ROUTE
1. Start at the Mount Pleasant Hotel on Bellevue Terrace in Great Malvern, with your back to the hotel, turn right, with in a few yards you'll see Rose Bank Gardens on your right.
2. Walk up towards the hill with the gardens on your left, in front of you are a series of steps which you climb.
3. When you reach the top turn right and then immediately left. You're now walking on the road up the hill that was built for Princess Victoria when she visited the town as a little girl.
4. You'll reach St Ann's Well where you can take a glass of water before going up some steps to the right of the well.
5. Follow the gravel path which winds up the hill, as you ascend you'll see North Hill looming up on your right.
6. When you reach a junction keep following the path to the left, there is a sign saying Beacon pointing to the left.
7. Keep going along the path until you reach a stone marker, the Worcestershire Beacon can now clearly be seen in front of you, choose which ever path you want to take to the top, they can all be clearly seen in front of you.
8. Descend from the toposcope after taking in the views, following the path of your choice back to the stone marker.
9. Retrace your steps until you reach St Ann's Well again on your right. At the well turn sharp left and follow that path down to a T Junction.
10 At the T Junction turn right and this leads you into the Happy Valley and back into the town. As you near the town, look out for the shed on your left which used to house the donkeys used on the hill. Further on from there when you reach a road going to the right look to your right and you'll see the lodging house where President Franklin D Roosevelt stayed as a boy.
11. Continue straight on into the town and end at The Unicorn Pub where the writer C.S Lewis used to go when he lived in the town.
